Honolulu City Lights

December 21, 2017

From the palace I walked down the street to the city hall and the adjacent park decorated for the holidays. The entrance area was filled with Christmas trees and other decorations done by various city departments and some state and federal agencies. It was almost 5pm and after dark children would be crowding the area waiting to talk with Santa, so I went ahead and took the indoor shots. I got some pictures of the outdoor decorations in the remaining daylight and then waited for dark and for the lights to come on.

There were rides for the kids.

The tree below changed colors over time. My animation below doesn't really represent the actual time it stayed on a color.

"Mele Kalikimaka" is the thing to say . . .

Inside there was an exhibit of custom Christmas wreaths. These seemed particularly unusual.

There were food vendors, and I chose to get a malasada, a fried dough pastry of Portuguese origin.
Nancy and Sherman had tried them and knew I would like them.

With everybody's permission, I took a few pictures of the decorating of a little girl's arm with glitter.

The next day would be the start of the Diamondhead Classic basketball tournament.
Games were on Friday, Saturday, and Monday.
