Bergen, Norway

June 2–3, 2025

Air France was able to get me to Bergen on the afternoon of June 2. That was the day I had planned out in my mind to show Mary Jane around for a full day of sightseeing. She had arrived the day before, and that morning had been rainy, so she had not done much exploring. The afternoon was lovely, so we had the abbreviated tour in walking distance from our hotel. You see the cupola on our hotel in pictures below. The location is so great that I chose to stay at the same place Lee and I did two years before. You can see the fortress just beyond the hotel, and the Hanseatic League buildings just this side of it. The ferris wheel was not there spoiling the view two years ago. I gather it has been there a couple of times since, so maybe it is not a permanent addition.

So here are some pictures from the short time I spent in Bergen before the cruise. You can see pictures from my time in Norway two years ago, starting here.

We walked through the fish market. There are stalls selling prepared food as well as all manner of seafood.

I am fairly sure I had never seen whale meat before.

The little jars held various kinds of roe. In the front of the case was dried fish for snacking.

I tried to capture the bewildered expression on the baby's face as she saw the huge crab. But she turned to me, still a bit bewildered.

Instead of eating at the fish market, we went back to the hotel, where they would serve us a light supper. The next morning we checked out of the hotel and took a cab to the cruise port and boarded our ship.
