Norway Cruise

June 1 – 14, 2025

I had not planned to go back to Norway so soon after my 2023 trip but did have the idea that someday I would like to take a cruise to a series of fjords on the west coast. My friend Mary Jane Winter let me know that a friend of hers was taking a Hurtigruten cruise this year, and she was considering going. She thought that I, as a more seasoned traveler and previous visitor to Norway, might make a good traveling companion. After a few minutes of thought, I decided to go.

On May 31 I headed to the Charlotte airport and hung out in the lounge that my boarding pass let me into. Near time for boarding, I headed to the opposite corner of the airport near my gate. As is usual for CLT, some of the moving sidewalks actually were in operation. So I plopped down and overheard interesting conversations between a guy going to the Czech Republic to give a presentation on military archaeology and four guys from Poland. Every half hour, there was an announcement that boarding would begin in a half hour. Eventually, Lufthansa gave up fixing the plane that night, and told us to retrieve our bags at the carousel. Eventually they texted me that they could get me to Bergen the day after my cruise left. After I got back home that night, I searched on Expedia, and found I could get to Bergen on June 2 by flying Delta to Atlanta and then Air France to Paris and thence to Bergen.
